Late Summer Days

18 08 2014

August always feels like a rush of trying to enjoy the end of summer and a lazy month when it is nice just to be home and around town.

This year we enjoyed a couple of shows at the Theater in the Woods at Wolf trap. Henry had fun hanging out and having a picnic with friends Justice and Eddie one Friday.

Henry has exploded with talking and toddling around faster than ever. He is a bundle of energy and happiness. He’s also sweet and loves hugs or “Uggs” as he calls them. Some fun words he has learned this month: “Here ya go”, “open please”, “I love you”, “Ahmena”= Amelia, “popsicle”, “breakfast”, “dinner”, and “no”

We seem to take the kids downtown in DC at least once every two months or so. We try to take advantage of living so close. The kids (and Paul) like taking the train too.

IMG_20140809_091951_thumb1

This time we checked out the Fun Zone at the National Building Museum. It was a hit!

Then we walked to the nearby American Art museum to enjoy their Beach Party. They had crafts, sand play, and hula dancers in the atrium.

They always seem to fall asleep on the way home! It screws up the nap schedule but is worth it.

We like visiting the Montgomery County Agriculture Fair in August. In our second year with kids, we knew the favorite activities to visit: pony rides, John Deere tractors, soybean box, and ice cream!

We’ve have had a lot of good weekend times at home reading, playing and visiting our neighborhood parks and ice cream shop.

We tried out the Bohrer water park again this year- it was pretty crowded and still a little old for them.

IMG_20140809_160846_thumb1

But we loved the Germantown adventure splash park- it is perfect for both of their ages this summer.

It’s that time of year for Amelia’s friends birthday parties to begin (from the moms group). Bouncy houses and pools are fun party activities.

Outer Banks, NC Vacation (Part 1)

07 08 2014

We traveled to Nags Head in the Outerbanks for our summer vacation trip this year. We were excited that Carrie, Dwayne, and Leila were able to join us too.

We were worried about traffic from the DC area on Saturday so we left on Friday and drove about 5 hours to Elizabeth City. We stopped at a fantastic park in Suffolk, VA called Kid Zone.

We stayed the night in the Best Western in Elizabeth City, NC. The kids were excited to be on vacation and they did great sleeping next to each other.

Once we got to the Outerbanks on Saturday morning we couldn’t get into our house until 4pm but we were able to use the Villages of Nags Head (the community of our rental house) beach and pool club, which was great!

The kids were very excited about the pool.

After some naps in the car, we headed to a Children's Play Museum not far from our rental. It was the perfect place to let the kids run around while we waited for the house to be ready.

We ate an early dinner at Awful Arthur’s Oysters recommended on Trip Advisor. Paul and I loved the oysters but unfortunately in other ways the restaurant lived up to it’s name—awful service, not great food.

After dinner we finally got to the “beach house”!

On Sunday Carrie and I went out to get fresh fruits, veggies, and seafood for dinners. We found amazing fresh seafood at the Austin Fish Market in Nags Head.

We bought shrimp, sea bass, grouper, and scallops.

The girls had fun dressing up like princesses in the morning.
